I'm also selling another batch of my vintage sewing patterns. I sold quite a lot last time, but I guess I have quite a collection! I'll be putting more on ebay throughout this week, but here is a sample of what I'm selling (on ebay):
Somebody asked me why I was selling them a while ago. In case you've been wondering too, I have three reasons:
- While we have an office in which I have a dedicated sewing area, I don't have heaps of storage room. I figure if I don't use something, I should probably move it out.
- My figure has changed post-baby. I have a softer and more sensitive tummy (do any of you also have a more sensitive mid-section after having a baby? I never anticipated that), and a completely different lifestyle. For me personally, I don't find the occassion to wear more vintage style clothing, and don't find it as comfy for my lifestyle with Little M.
- I'm trying to make a bit of extra pocket money - tight finances around here, so if I want a new pattern or bit of fabric I have to really think about where it comes from. Selling a few patterns has meant I could buy one of the new Papercut Patterns in time to sew it for a very special event - more on that to come!
The hardest thing for me with the kids is sleep deprivation. It has improved since they were all babies, the youngest will be 9 in a fortnight. But, I remain ever needful of regular, decent and long lasting sleep.
ReplyDeleteOh and my tummy can't take belts and firm waistbands anymore either!
I hear you. I suppose around 6am is really an okay time to awaken on a work morning, but Little M also woke up 3 times last night crying out in her sleep and needing one of us to go in there and cuddle, kiss, and re-tuck her in. It is that combo with the early wake-up that kills me. Then I have to go to work and be productive. I find it pretty hard.
DeleteI have a stack of vintage patterns I want to pop on eBay too. After having Imogen I find my style has completely changed and vintage just isn't practical anymore. I save vintage styles for special occasions now rather than the everyday I used to wear it.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel Kat! So far I've had pretty reasonable success selling them on ebay - I guess that is where I bought the majority of them in the first place, so it makes sense!
Delete5.59am!! That's a sleep in around here! I love starting work at 7.30am. So peaceful and quiet...
ReplyDeleteI know... I'm just more used to the 7am mark. I wouldn't mind a reprieve of peace & quiet if I didn't only get peace and quiet pretty much every day.
DeleteI know exactly what you mean with the tummy. After the birth of no 2 it seems that no matter how much exercise I do, I can't seem to shift it. I am currently altering my sewing/wardrobe to accomodate.
ReplyDeleteHello Rachel, I like your latest dress! I know you're trying to sell patterns, but I was sorting out today and came across Vogue 8552. I muslined it, and it's just not right for my body type. You like dresses like Gaby that a bit looser around the middle, but I can't wear them. Do you want this unloved one? It's in sizes 8 - 16. Cut, but all sizes intact, and it's absolutely free. I'll happily post it to make more room in this house. PS I saw you at the Drapery on thursday. I was with my mother, in case you remember me. Cornelia
ReplyDeleteCornelia, hello! I do remember you - did you have a nice day? It is so nice of you to write to me. I would absolutely love that pattern! I actually tried to buy it a while back and couldn't find it. Do you have an email I can write to you at? And I would be more than happy to pay for postage. Thank you - so lovely of you!
ReplyDeletecornelialehane@gmail.com It's not worth transferring a few dollars to pay for postage Rachel. It's such a little amount, and I'm just happy to see things get used. Throwing out almost finished projects last night that just can't be re-used was a little distressing. In fact I went to bed in a funk. I'll just have to put my big girl pants on this morning, and bring my wee boy to school for the first time! And now time to child wrangle... Cornelia
