Vogue 1314: With Powder Puff Added

Hi! I am currently beginning a five-day-whole-house-to-myself-break. Michael has taken Little M to Sydney to see his folks and I have to work on Monday, so here I am by myself until Tuesday arvo (Tuesday is a public holiday here in Melbourne - it's Melbourne Cup Day). I'm working from home on Monday and doing lots of girls-only things. Like going to Geelong for a fabric shopping afternoon, tapas and drinks with Anna and Renay on Saturday and movies and dinner with Ruthy and a friend on Sunday night. And sewing of course.

The purpose of this post however is to show you my new work dress, another Vogue 1314.

I used the lining pieces for this one as I didn't want the ruching. The fabric is a ponti remnant I got from Tessuti, and while it is a lightweight ponti I don't think it would have gathered well. I also left off the sleeves (obviously!).

I sewed the size 10 lining pieces as this ponti is not overly stretchy - it is definitely not as stretchy as the other ponti fabrics I have sewn with.

I am mildly annoyed with myself. Can you guess why? When I look at the above photo all I can see is a white circle positioned right where my nipple points too. I didn't even slightly consider cutting layouts with this. Michael assures me it isn't noticeable, but it is all I can see. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Now I'm looking at this photo it looks like I'm wearing a powder puff bunny tail. Bloody hell. I am an idiot.

Well, there you have it. My non-ruched Vogue 1314 with powder puff bunny tail added. If only I'd wore it yesterday it could have passed for a Halloween costume.

Pattern: Vogue 1314
Fabric: Remnant of 'Potion Commotion' ponti from Tessuti.
Notions: Knit stay tape
Alterations: Used lining pieces so no ruching.

  1. Your dress is a success! It's a perfect fit and you've styled it nicely. I say, wear it with pride and no one will notice.

  2. I think it looks great, I don't see any bunny tail or circle over nipple, and I TRIED really, really hard to find what you were talking bout, and i couldn't!!

  3. Great dress! Only a sewist would notice, so wear it to work with pride. It could be worse, just think of Anna's tunic!!

  4. You look great! Don't mention it to anyone, as you wouldn't notice if you didn't point it out. I only noticed after I ready your funny post, didn't notice it at first glance.

  5. Ha ha! I agree with Leith only a sewist would notice and like Colette says, don't mention it to anyone. Enjoy your 5 days! I'm insanely jealous. BTW - you are looking mighty nice in these photos :)

  6. This post made me laugh. I didn't notice the nipple placement until you pointed it out either. If it you can't get past it, maybe you could distract onlookers with a bright funky necklace. My cutting time always seems to coincide with my looking after kids time so I'm often distracted and the job is often rushed. I'm always kicking myself about fabric placement after sewing garments together.

  9. The print on the fabric is really interesting! I didn't notice anything resembling a bunny tail until you mentioned it! :-D I hope you have a wonderful weekend and find lots of great new fabrics!

  10. I think it looks great, but I can relate to something staying on your mind and ruining some perfectly good work! You can throw on a solid scarf if it makes you feel better, but it is a great dress and a fabulous fit! Wish I could find great ponte like that in the US.

  13. No, it looks seriously great on you - a lovely fit and good idea to use the lining pattern - and I only saw the placement of the white circle and bunny tail because you pointed them out too!

  14. This dress looks great...I can't notice the bunny tail/boob thing (plus there's only one circle over one boob, so that helps it).

  15. Don't worry about the pattern placement, I think it's just like seeing shapes and animals in the clouds, you only see them when you are trying hard or when they are pointed out to you!

  16. Own that bunny tail because this is one fierce frock! Epic work as always :D

  19. Ha! I would have never noticed until you pointed it out. And even so, it's still not noticeable. I really love the print. You look fantastic! (I'm catching up on my reader in case you are wondering why I'm commenting on older posts :)
