A 40's Shirtdress

Remember this pattern?

You may remember I've made Views 2 and 3 previously:

Well, I decided to make view 1 in this lovely 50's rayon that I got from ebay:

I used little gold buttons with flowers on them. They are quite cute. The rayon was awful to sew with. It moved around, frayed badly and was generally difficult. Ah well.

I know this pattern well enough now to not have any difficulties with it's construction.

A side view - see me practising my nice posture? :-)

And then from the back:

It isn't my most favourite version of this pattern, but it is a great dress for work.

Which is your favourite?

  1. It's sweet Rachel - my favourite is the top one (but it could be the great photo!)

Your posture is looking good too - I am suddenly noticing my stiff neck and shoulders over the computer...hmmm

  3. I love them all... and this is the second blog I've seen this week that is giving me belt envy (I really need to get more belts). I really like the brown belt and shoes with the neutral colour of the collared dress.
I hear you with the frustrating fabric though, I did some more work on my trench coat lining last week and had a wee tantrum with the matte satin. I abandoned it, still under the presser foot and watched some New Zealand's Next Top Model with a bottle of cider instead! Tragic, I know ;)

  5. Ooh this is lovely! Possibly my favourite of the three, in fact. Your productivity never ceases to amaze me, Rachel...

  6. You're a clever thing - I love it!

I'm going to get materials for another skirt today - I start my week of no internet for charity in 20 minutes, and you've just inspired me!

  8. Pretty! My favourite's the top one, I love the photo and styling. Love the gold buttons on your most recent version too... and how great that you've made three successful dresses from the same pattern, talk about getting your moneys' worth!
