Green Mean Marian Martin Machine

Okay, so I know it is a bad title for a pretty blouse, but I have the flu -- which is also the caveat that comes with these photos in which I have big bags under my eyes.

So.... as promised, here is my 'good' version of the 30's/40's(?) Marian Martin blouse:

I have nothing really to add from my last description of how this went together. The only thing I changed for this time was the lace trim around the neck edge instead of a facing. This one does sit a lot better too... I think because it is a lighter weight fabric than the quilting cotton I used for my muslin.

Here you can see the bow a little better:

There is one thing I don't like about this pattern. The bow ties are not faced/lined, so the 'wrong' side of the fabric shows through, especially if I don't watch how I tie it. I didn't have enough fabric to line the ties this time, but for next time... they're getting lined!!

Well, I'm back to bed.... there is a cold/flu going around our office and I am the latest to have it. Its only my second week of work at my new job, so I'm feeling like a bit of a slacker!! Plus I've discovered I hate having time off when I have no motivation to sew. Life is unfair!! I've got big plans for saturday when Michael is at work and I've got the house to myself to run my little machine ragged ;-)

  2. I swear I am not lying. I have been home for 2 days.... have felt awful. But thank you!! I wrote you an email about tracing a pattern ... let me know what you think!! And, I commented on your latest white 40's blouse. It is gorgeous.

  3. Looks very nice! But this is not 30's/40's. The picture on the pattern is more 50's, could even be early 60's. Which doesn't matter much as the blouse is really, really cute :-)

  8. So pretty. Love how the geometric lines of the fabric work with the pattern and the bow looks lovely (without being cutesie). Not convinced above poster is right about it being a 60s pattern though. The cut of the sleeves make me think it's older than that.

  9. Get Well!

Love- Love- Love these gorgeouso vintage duds!
I'm super wishing I had the time to make myself some as I was given a load of vintage patterns from my hubbies grandmother- Butterick, Vogue, etc. Hohum- someday!
It is stunning how they really look so feminine!- I just assumed that I'd look rediculous in something like this- but hmmmm, maybe not!!!
Where's my sewing machine- you've inspired me! :)

  10. Thanks everyone! I am feeling much better now, though everyone at work today said I did not have my regular 'sparkle' back yet. Need another day of rest me thinks.

Rachel -- definitely make your vintage garments!! Just choose fabric that will work for you. I'm so jealous that you have a bunch of patterns from your hubbie's grandmother - I've had to collect mine the hard way.

Nathallie - I think it is older too, but couldn't find it on wiki patterns. Anyone else willing to hedge a bet on its era?
    xx
